AC Milan is reportedly interested in the 2008-born left-back who has already started in Serie A and nearly scored against Napoli. He possesses strong physicality, excellent progression, and significant room for development.
His name itself, Honest, sets a positive tone, as does the promising start to his career. Honest Ahanor, a left-back for Genoa born in 2008, has already made his Serie A debut, much like Camarda, and has even played as a starter in league matches. For these reasons, among others, he has caught the eye of AC Milan, who view him as a potential reinforcement for the January transfer window.
Ahanor: His Origins
Ahanor was born in Aversa, Campania, but moved to Genoa at a very young age, stating, “I feel 100% Genovese.” He is both a Genovese native and a “Genoano” (Genoa supporter and player), having played for Genoa since he was eight years old. He told Secolo XIX, “It`s my home, my family, my support system. It`s something I know will always be there, even in difficult times.” His beginnings weren`t easy. The Ahanor family was hosted by a community at the Boschetto Abbey, where Honest first heard children playing football. He joined the game, and from that moment, everything began.
Ahanor: Player Profile
Although Ahanor only turned 17 in February, he possesses an adult physique, impressive progression, and acceleration. He is versatile, capable of playing as a full-back or wide midfielder, and has also gained experience as a central defender. It`s no coincidence that he has started at least one match under both Gilardino and Vieira; while his journey is long, his quality is easily recognizable. Serie A primarily noticed him for the “goal-own goal” in the 2-2 Napoli-Genoa match on May 11th, a game that unsettled Conte`s Scudetto aspirations. Although officially recorded as an own goal by Meret, Honest considers it his own, calling it “the best day of my life.”
National Team: Italy or Nigeria?
Could he become a prominent name in the transfer market by late June or July? It`s possible. While Genoa would gladly retain him for next season, AC Milan and other major clubs have expressed interest. Updates are expected soon, perhaps over the summer or shortly thereafter. In February, Honest will also obtain Italian citizenship, which will bring up the question of his national team allegiance.
