The new Tuscan team`s coach is officially presented: `The dismissal at Genoa was a learning experience. I already have some ideas for the new season.`

“I would like to start with thanks: to the director, the president, the ownership. I arrived in Pisa with great enthusiasm, finding enormous willingness. We communicate well, we have the same ideas and the same goals. I am a young coach with a great culture of work, commitment, and sacrifice. And that is what I will try to transmit to the team.” These first words from Alberto Gilardino as Pisa`s coach fully reflect him: work, commitment, sacrifice. This is the method with which the new black-and-blue coach previously built Genoa`s promotion, then an exciting Serie A survival with 49 points achieved in the first year before being dismissed the following season, even when the team wasn`t in the relegation zone. But the red-and-blue shirt is now behind him. “What convinced me? No one had to convince me,” continues Gilardino. “I really liked the straightforwardness in the relationship with the director and the enthusiasm of the fans, which must serve as vital energy. But now is the time to work and run harder than others. A train that goes straight: this is what we must be because Pisa must remain in Serie A.”
Another World Champion in Pisa
After Gattuso and Inzaghi, Gila has become the third 2006 World Champion to sit on the Pisa bench: “Before coming here, I spoke to Pippo, it’s natural. We talked two weeks ago; I asked him for information, and now I am here. Not Rino, not yet. From last season (Inzaghi`s season), we need to carry forward all the positive things that were done, but at the same time, move on.” And speaking of individuals, Gilardino emphasized how he improved his coaching knowledge in recent months without a team: “The dismissal was a learning experience: besides enjoying my family, I thought, reflected, learned. At 43, you must want to learn: I was in Marseille with De Zerbi and in London with Maresca, two great coaches. Roberto has done great things, Enzo is in a World Final.” Finally, a nod to the present, the squad, and the project Gila has in mind for his new group: “We are at Officine Garibaldi, we play at Arena Garibaldi, and I… want a `Garibaldian` Pisa [referencing a historical fighting spirit]. Tactically, I already have some ideas, but I believe in the characteristics of the players. And everyone will be important: from those I`ve worked with in these first 4 days to those who will arrive or have returned from their respective loans. There will be difficult moments, but also good moments that must be seized, while when the `libeccio` [a strong wind] arrives, we will have to close the windows.” But today, in Pisa, the air is entirely good.
