The situation at Olympique Lyon has caused significant disruption throughout French football. Fans and, particularly, club members were heavily impacted by the official administrative relegation to Ligue 2 and are now seeking a way forward from the complex circumstances.
However, this dramatic turn of events has only marginally affected Alexandre Lacazette. While the striker was understandably emotionally moved, having spent almost his entire career at OL, his professional standing has not been jeopardized by the club`s fate.
The former Arsenal player`s contract was already set to expire well before the current turmoil began, and his intention was not to renew. New opportunities now await him, far from France and, more generally, Europe.
It is understood that everything is in place for a move to Saudi Arabian club Neom. This club recently won the Saudi First Division (the second tier) and is looking to bolster its squad with Lacazette as they prepare for the Pro League.
Notably, Said Benrahma is also expected to make the same move. Benrahma, whom many in Italy will recall for scoring the first of West Ham`s two goals in the 2023 Conference League final against Fiorentina, arrived at Lyon in February 2024 and is now set to transfer to Neom for €12 million.
