Preview Allegri: “Humility and Attention Were Key to Forgetting Cremonese”

Three points, a clean sheet, the fans singing, and even the debut of 2006-born Balentien from Oddo`s Futuro academy – all this was enough to overshadow a dreadful first half. That opening period felt like a worrying continuation of the match against Cremonese: defensive play marked by anxiety, extremely low overall quality in passes, and few clear ideas on how to threaten the Lecce goal. The second half, however, rectified everything, making the upcoming international break feel much brighter than the uncertainty it had risked bringing.

Allegri`s words: “The team stayed in the game until the very end, we took few risks, although we could have performed better,” Allegri reflected post-match. “Winning today was crucial to put the defeat against Cremonese behind us. Playing a cautious game, without conceding space, marks a first step for this season. In the second half, we varied our play and secured the victory against a good Lecce side. We played with great humility and attention, and this is what must drive us forward. Gimenez? He`s an excellent player; let`s not forget he`s only been with us for 20 days. Unfortunately, two of his goals have been disallowed in recent matches, but it`s good that he`s scoring them. I`m very happy with him, as I am with the whole team. The switch to a 3-5-2? We did our pre-season with this system, then thought about returning to a 4-3-3, but the important thing is to have players with diverse attributes that allow me to adapt. The club will assess the market to see if there are significant players to bring to Milan. We`ve made progress in our perception of danger, not just because we didn`t concede: on rebounds, on reactivity, it was a significant step forward.”
