Andrea Petagna`s performance over the last three years has not been great, to say the least. Signed from Napoli to be the main striker, similar to his role at SPAL, he managed to score only four goals in his first season. This was a poor return for someone arriving from a major club and earning around 3 million euros per season.
Consequently, he sought a change of scenery, moving to Sardinia in the hope that it would provide him with a boost. However, just one goal – although it proved decisive for survival – doesn`t indicate much improvement at all, quite the opposite.
Then there is his current season with Monza, featuring zero goals in thirteen appearances. There is a strong sense that he needs to leave to find new energy, following his more successful spells at Atalanta, SPAL, and Napoli.
In recent months, Petagna surprisingly renewed his contract with Monza. He chose to extend it by another year, spreading the same total salary amount over a longer period, effectively making himself potentially more attractive from a market perspective. The official club statement read: `AC Monza announces that the player Andrea Petagna, demonstrating great affection for the Club, has extended his contract until 30/6/2027 from the original 30/6/2026 for the same overall amount.`
It remains uncertain whether he will indeed embark on a new footballing journey after experiencing three rather inconsistent seasons with the Monza club. Coincidentally, today Andrea Petagna turns 30 years old.
