Preview AS Roma Edges Closer to Evan Ferguson Loan Deal

AS Roma is reportedly nearing an agreement to bring Brighton & Hove Albion`s talented striker, Evan Ferguson, to the Italian capital. Giallorossi sporting director Massara is prioritizing the reinforcement of the team`s attack through financially viable means. This strategic approach is further facilitated by the recent transfer of Eldor Shomurodov to Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir, freeing up resources.

According to detailed reports from Il Messaggero, Brighton is keenly aware that they cannot demand the hefty valuation of approximately 60 million euros that was placed on Ferguson last season. This shift in price expectations is largely attributed to the cruciate ligament injury the young striker sustained in April 2024. Consequently, the English club appears inclined to send him to Roma on a loan basis. This arrangement not only provides Ferguson with a new environment for recovery and development but also allows Brighton to closely monitor his progress, especially given he remains under a four-year contract with the Seagulls.

Sources suggest that the core terms of the agreement are now in place, and Ferguson himself is reportedly enthusiastic about the prospect of joining Roma. A key aspect of the deal is that Roma will not be obliged to make the transfer permanent. Initially, the Roman club will be responsible solely for covering Ferguson`s salary, which is estimated to be around 2 million euros. However, Roma will secure a crucial provision: a right to purchase the player outright at a later stage, with the potential buy-out fee expected to be in the region of 30 million euros.
