Mayor Meets Dan Friedkin: Project to Include Urban Redevelopment and Green Zones
The AS Roma stadium project is entering its final stages, with Mayor Roberto Gualtieri proclaiming it will be “one of the most beautiful in the world.” This morning, Gualtieri and Dan Friedkin met at the Hotel Cavalieri during the 32nd Efc summit. Their discussion primarily focused on the Pietralata stadium, for which the definitive project is expected by the end of 2025. On stage, the Mayor expressed Rome`s honor in hosting the Efc event, greeting the presidents of European clubs, including El-Khelaifi and Lazio`s Claudio Lotito. Gualtieri highlighted Rome`s dedication to sports and its investments in new facilities across the city.
The Stadium Project
Gualtieri then elaborated on the stadium project, stating: “We aim to improve existing stadiums and facilities, collaborating with the city`s two main clubs to achieve this.” He emphasized Italy`s role in the Efc, which comprises 38 men`s and women`s clubs, describing the assembly as a crucial moment to celebrate football. “Rome is pleased to be part of this transition, where sport has symbolized community and unity for millennia. This spirit will continue with the new AS Roma stadium, which will not only be among the most beautiful but will also bring comprehensive urban regeneration, including green spaces and new sports facilities. Rome is a global city, and I hope this meeting marks a new beginning for European football,” the Mayor concluded.
El Khelaifi`s Remarks
Following Gualtieri, Nasser El Khelaifi, Efc President and owner of PSG, took the stage to express his deep gratitude to Dan Friedkin. “Thanks to his team, this has been the best assembly in our history. It wouldn`t have been possible without you. You are one of the most elegant people I have ever met, and I have a small gift for you,” said El Khelaifi, inviting Friedkin to the stage to present him with a commemorative event jersey. Later that day, Friedkin also met Ezio Simonelli, President of Serie A League, and a possible meeting with Claudio Ranieri in the afternoon was rumored.
