Borussia Dortmund has officially announced the transfer of their promising young forward, Jamie Gittens, 20, to Chelsea. Following several months of extensive negotiations, the London-based club has reportedly agreed to a fee of 65 million euros to secure the talented player, who is set to sign a long-term contract with the Blues until 2032.
In their official statement, BVB confirmed that Gittens is on the cusp of joining the English Premier League side. An agreement between all involved parties was reached this Thursday in Fort Lauderdale, USA. Both Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are currently participating in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, facilitating the finalization of the deal, with only minor contractual details remaining.
Gittens originally arrived at Borussia Dortmund in 2020, joining from Manchester City`s youth academy. Since then, he has developed significantly, making 76 appearances in the Bundesliga and scoring 12 goals. He also featured in 23 UEFA Champions League matches, where he netted 5 goals, showcasing his potential on the European stage.
Lars Ricken, Borussia Dortmund`s CEO, provided a comment on the transfer through the club`s official channels, highlighting Gittens` career as a testament to Dortmund’s philosophy of nurturing young talent:
`The career of Jamie Gittens is a perfect example of how great talents develop at Borussia Dortmund. We identified him very early, acquired him practically for free, developed him in our excellent youth center, and provided him with opportunities at the highest professional level. Jamie repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals. His transfer back to his home country represents a very advantageous deal for us. We wish him all the best for his future sporting career.`
