Cagliari, in their search for reinforcements for the attacking department, according to what has been gathered, is reportedly evaluating the profile of Simone Leonardi. The young centre-forward, owned by Sampdoria, spent last season dividing his time between the Blucerchiati first team, where he made 6 appearances and scored one goal, and the Primavera squad, with 13 caps and 7 goals, followed by a loan spell at Rimini in the second half of the year. With the Romagna-based club, in Serie C, he made 10 appearances but failed to find the net.
His career also includes 2 appearances for the Italy Under 17 national team. The nineteen-year-old represents the kind of young and promising profile that a club like Cagliari tends to look for, both to strengthen the squad immediately and with a view to future development, given his potential.
Meanwhile, the club sent a clear signal by redeeming Adopo, Caprile, and Piccoli in recent days. On Thursday, president Tommaso Giulini spoke about their potential stay in Sardinia: “We worked to the best of our ability, and all of this can only be a huge step forward. I have positive feelings. We are among those who cannot afford to make mistakes. We must not abandon the dream.”
He added: “I don`t do trading with players. If I sign a player, I sign him to keep him, and you know that. Of course, if unmissable offers arrive and the lads push to leave, that`s another matter, but I believe all three need another important year here before they can go elsewhere.”
