Cagliari secured a convincing victory, earning their spot in the Coppa Italia round of 16, where they will face the reigning champions Napoli. The team triumphed over Frosinone with a 4-1 scoreline, after the Ciociari managed to hold their ground for the entire first half, only to falter in the second.
Frosinone initially showed resilience. After Cagliari took an early lead with a penalty from Gaetano, the Ciociari equalized through Vergani and even came close to taking the lead before halftime, with Gelli`s shot hitting the crossbar. However, the second half saw a transformed Cagliari, thanks in part to the introduction of Felici. His runs down the left flank proved decisive: he first provided the assist for former player Borrelli`s goal, then scored the third himself, and finally, young Cavuoti sealed the result.
Coach Pisacane Reflects on Victory and Team Management
After the match, Cagliari`s coach Fabio Pisacane, under whose guidance the Sardinians are enjoying a promising start to the season, commented on the victory and explained his tactical choices.
“I tried to rotate the players. Some had not yet had the opportunity to play. The weather conditions were prohibitive, with high humidity certainly not helping. This is not an excuse. I wanted to give everyone a chance; I believe starting with the same core players could have negatively impacted group management.”
Pisacane`s strategic rotation proved effective, showcasing the depth of his squad and maintaining team cohesion even amidst challenging environmental factors. The upcoming clash with Napoli promises to be a stern test for the buoyant Cagliari side.
