Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Fabio Capello offered his perspective on Juventus`s squad composition for the upcoming football season. He began by addressing the forward line, stating, “Yildiz is an extremely positive factor. He is confirmed, appreciated by the team, the club, the fans. He is a reference point. He finished this season very well, and the next one must be that of definitive consecration and reaffirmation.”
Asked if Nico Gonzalez should be given another opportunity, Capello commented, “He didn`t confirm expectations; he had potential but wasn`t able to demonstrate it.” However, Capello pointed out that manager Tudor “has had the opportunity to evaluate everyone, from when he arrived until the end of the Club World Cup.” He added, “If he has understood the Argentine and has framed him well, he can decide his future and say whether a player like that interests him or not. Now it`s also up to the coach to build a winning team.”
Regarding the possibility of a dream attack, Capello provided a dose of reality. “Yes, you dream with the attack, but reality says that only once has a team that didn`t have the best defense won the league. If you are not solid at the back, you don`t go anywhere. Everything else is chatter.” He then emphasized the defensive contributions, saying, “In this sense, the return of Bremer after the long injury and the recovery to one hundred percent of Gatti will make the real difference there [in defense].” Capello concluded by highlighting the internal strength: “You have two reinforcements of this caliber already in-house for such an important department as defense; at Juve, they know that this is not a factor to underestimate.”
