Following Inter`s 2-0 triumph over River Plate in the Club World Cup, coach Cristian Chivu shared his thoughts with DAZN. He noted that his team played a truly determined game, focused on advancing to the next stage. Chivu acknowledged that the first half presented challenges due to River Plate`s intensity and pressing. However, in the second half, Inter adopted a more direct attacking style, which led to their victory and progression to the round of 16. Looking ahead, Chivu emphasized the need for physical and mental recovery, as another tough match awaits on Monday, and the team must be fully prepared for their next opponent.
Chivu also highlighted the performance of young talent. “First, it was Carboni, and now Esposito,” he remarked. He added, “If I`m not mistaken, his birthday is coming up soon, so he`ll have to treat us to dinner or something!” Chivu expressed his satisfaction with Esposito`s display, emphasizing that it wasn`t an easy game to manage but he delivered a strong performance, on par with his teammates.
When asked if he`d like to have Esposito available for league matches, Chivu responded, “I never look too far ahead. My focus is always on finding solutions and ensuring every player feels valued, helping them discover their energy, ambition, and character.” He concluded by stating, “The future will reveal itself, but for now, our priority is what needs to be done here at the Club World Cup. It`s a genuine and significant competition, and we are determined to honor it with our best effort.”
