From Ederson to Thuram: The Players with the Lowest Fantasy Scores in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16.
The Round of 16 of the Club World Cup, which concluded with Borussia Dortmund`s victory over Monterrey, delivered several surprises. Notably, Inter was eliminated by Fluminense, and Manchester City exited the competition after being defeated 4-3 by Al Hilal. Consequently, fantasy managers who selected players from Chivu`s and Guardiola`s teams faced multiple negative scores in their lineups. Presenting a hypothetical 3-4-3 formation, here are the 11 flop players, position by position, from the first knockout round of the Club World Cup Fantasy Football.
Goalkeeper
A poor rating and the four goals conceded against Al Hilal leave no room for debate: Ederson was the worst-performing goalkeeper in the Club World Cup Round of 16. The Manchester City shot-stopper received a fantasy score of 1.
Defense
Even worse was Aviles` fantasy score: 0.5. The Inter Miami defender had a costly poor performance against PSG, marked by an own goal, a yellow card, and numerous defensive errors. The displays from Gvardiol and Bastoni were also significantly below par; two of the most highly-rated defenders saw their final Club World Cup fantasy score settle at 4.5.
Midfield
Among the midfielders, Erik Pulgar`s performance stands out negatively: an own goal and a yellow card for the former Bologna player resulted in a poor final score of 2.5. Prestianni also received a penalty, ending his Club World Cup with a fantasy score of 3 due to a red card. The two defensive midfielders from Flamengo and Inter Miami, Allan and Sergio Busquets, also struggled, both scoring 4.5.
Attack
Another player exiting the Club World Cup with a significantly low score (4) is Thuram: hampered by injuries and poor form, the Frenchman failed to make an impact in this competition. Even lower fantasy scores were recorded by Pavlidis and Luis Suarez: 3.5 for the forwards from Benfica and Inter Miami, respectively.
