Young Boys have secured a significant signing with the return of Swiss international midfielder, Edimilson Fernandes. The 29-year-old has penned a four-year contract with the Bern-based club, tying him to the team until the summer of 2029. Fernandes arrives from Bundesliga side Mainz and boasts an impressive resume, having played in four of Europe`s top five leagues.

Christoph Spycher, Young Boys` Sporting Director, expressed his delight at the transfer. “We are very pleased that Edimilson chose to come back,” Spycher stated. “He is a versatile player with extensive experience and will take on a leadership role in our midfield. His qualities will undoubtedly strengthen our core group of senior players.” This isn`t Fernandes` first stint with the Yellow and Blacks; he previously played for the Bernese club on loan during the latter half of the 2021/22 season. His career highlights include 98 appearances in the Bundesliga, 62 in the Swiss Super League, 42 in the Premier League, 29 in Serie A (with Fiorentina), and 19 in Ligue 1. He has a strong background in top-tier European football.

Mathieu Beda, the Technical Director, added, “Edimilson will bring strength and stability to the squad. He has made a significant impact wherever he has played and is now in the prime of his footballing career.” Fernandes himself conveyed his enthusiasm for this new chapter. “I know the environment well and many players in the squad,” he said. “YB is an ambitious club, and I want to give my absolute best to contribute to its future successes.”
