The news had been anticipated, and now it`s official: Empoli has made a significant change to its coaching staff. Following the international break and ahead of the league`s resumption, the club has formally dismissed coach Guido Pagliuca, along with several other members of his technical staff.
Alessio Dionisi, a familiar figure to the Azzurri, is the primary candidate to take over. Dionisi previously led Empoli to promotion to Serie A in the 2020/21 season before moving to Sassuolo. Currently, the Tuscan coach is in the process of terminating his contract with Palermo, his most recent club, before finalizing his return to Empoli. However, a definitive agreement has not yet been reached.
While awaiting Dionisi`s official return to the Castellani bench, assistant Stefano Bianconi led yesterday afternoon`s training session. The club`s objective is clear: to reinvigorate the team after an inconsistent start to their Serie B campaign and to recapture the enthusiasm and stability that marked Dionisi`s previous tenure.
Below is the official statement released by Empoli regarding Pagliuca`s dismissal:
“Empoli Football Club announces that Guido Pagliuca has been relieved of his duties as First Team Coach, along with technical staff members Nazzareno Tarantino, Simone Angeli, and Riccardo Carbone.
Empoli Football Club extends its sincerest thanks to Mr. Pagliuca and his staff for their work over recent months and wishes the coach and his collaborators all the best for their future, both personally and professionally.”
