Genoa`s two prominent football clubs, U.C. Sampdoria and Genoa CFC, have officially announced their full support for the city`s bid to host matches for the UEFA European Championship in 2032. Following a meeting that included representatives from UEFA and the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), both clubs released a joint statement affirming their commitment to the candidacy process for the Luigi Ferraris stadium.
The clubs highlighted that their alignment with the Genoa Municipality`s initiative, supported by figures like Silvia Salis, is a crucial step towards bringing the prestigious tournament to the city. While acknowledging that the endeavor is ambitious and presents significant challenges, both Sampdoria and Genoa CFC are convinced that the proposed renovation of the stadium will be an indispensable development.
They stressed that irrespective of the bid`s final outcome, modernizing the Luigi Ferraris stadium is vital to provide Genoa with a state-of-the-art, infrastructurally innovative facility that meets contemporary standards and serves the city`s long-term needs.
