Gustavo Nonato, the Fluminense midfielder on loan from Santos and a key player for the Brazilian club, spoke to FIFA channels ahead of their upcoming match against Inter in the Club World Cup quarterfinals.
“It`s an incredible moment for me, for the team, for the fans, for our country. We have four Brazilian teams in the quarterfinals, so it`s an amazing feeling. We need to enjoy it now, rest a bit, but cherish this moment because it`s unique in the club`s history.”
“For us, it`s not a surprise [that Brazilian teams are succeeding] because we already knew our level of play, our quality. This tournament gives us the opportunity to showcase the quality of the Brazilian league.”
What is your goal?
“I think our purpose is to be here and show our level, the quality of our players, how we play. I`m very happy with our team and how we`ve played. The Brazilian fans have also been stars of the Club World Cup in their own right, supporting their clubs in large numbers in stadiums across the United States.”
What would you like to say to them?
“The fans have been spectacular. They are supporting our team, pushing us forward, so I think the synergy between the team and the fans is incredible. This is a unique moment in my life.”
