Ahead of the match against Estonia, head coach Gennaro Gattuso shared his thoughts with RaiSport. He observed, “Physically, I found the players in better condition. I want to express my gratitude to the clubs for their excellent cooperation; since the players joined us, the team has definitely shown improvement, even during training sessions. We will deploy two forwards, and we`ll adjust the rest as needed.”
When asked if Raspadori could be a leader, Gattuso responded, “I prefer to have multiple leaders within the squad – individuals who are vocal and others who are more understated. I need the contribution of the entire team. Raspadori possesses significant qualities and can provide us with substantial support.”
Commenting on the increasing international interest in young Italian talents, Gattuso stated, “Clubs with considerable financial resources arrive and acquire our young players. They operate with an intensity different from ours, and I believe this trend has persisted for many years. They have a distinct philosophy regarding football. We, as coaches, must begin working now to improve this overall situation; we need to establish a clear direction.”
Regarding a proposal to alter the World Cup dates, Gattuso remarked, “I personally experienced the World Cup in Qatar. It`s challenging to restart afterwards; it’s difficult to regain momentum and resume the league season. I don`t wish to contradict President Infantino, but it`s not a straightforward matter to halt and then resume the championship.”
