Following the termination of his contract with Hellas Verona and signing with Standard Liege in Belgium, striker Thomas Henry took to his social media channels to bid farewell to Italy, which welcomed him in 2021. During his time there, he played for Venezia, scoring nine goals in 34 appearances, and Palermo, with two goals in 25 appearances, in addition to his spell at Hellas Verona where he netted five times in 36 matches.
“Thank you, Italy. It was an honor to discover you and learn your language. At times I hated you, for the many instances where business and politics seemed more important than the sport. There were also difficult moments, like the knee injury that kept me off the field for too long,” the French player born in `94 wrote on Instagram. “But I prefer to remember the best moments, and thus, in your world where there is never a middle ground, I loved you even more during those moments of immense pride, like scoring goals against legendary teams, players, and in iconic stadiums.”
“Our paths must separate now, but I will never forget all the moments we spent together, nor all the people I met over these years from North to South. Goodbye Italy, see you soon.”
