English Translation: Hope for a Pet: Online Cat Purchase – Woman Falls Victim to Scammers
A woman from the [e.g., Munich] area harbored a dream of bringing a new pet into her life. Following an extensive online search, she came across what appeared to be an irresistible offer for a rare breed cat. The images presented were delightful, and the price seemed unusually low, which only intensified her hope for a swift pet acquisition.
After making contact with the supposed "seller," who claimed to live abroad, she was asked to make various advance payments. Initially, this involved a deposit for the cat itself, followed by demands for transportation costs, special vaccinations, and an allegedly required transport box that met animal welfare standards. All communication took place exclusively via email and text messages; there was never a direct phone call or the opportunity to personally inspect the animal.
After the woman had transferred several hundred euros and the promised pet still failed to arrive, she grew suspicious. The "seller" suddenly stopped responding to her messages. It painfully dawned on her that she had become the victim of a well-organized scam. The cat she had so ardently wished for likely never existed, and her money was irretrievably lost.
Police strongly caution against such online pet purchase scams. Prospective buyers should always insist on personally inspecting the animal and its living conditions, refrain from making advance payments to unknown individuals, and exercise extreme vigilance when encountering suspiciously low prices or unusual communication methods. The hope for a new family member must not be allowed to turn into a trap.
