Inter's Tactical Dilemma: Reshaping Attack Against Milan Without Thuram

July 11, 2026Carlos Mendoza1 мин

Reports are mounting that Marcus Thuram will likely be unavailable for Inter's crucial clash against Milan, prompting speculation about how the team might adapt its offensive strategy.

The highly anticipated match kicks off at San Siro this Sunday at 19:45 GMT (20:45 CET).

With a 10-point lead, the Nerazzurri face their closest rivals, AC Milan, in a fixture that could significantly impact the Serie A title race.

Adding to their woes, Inter are already missing their top scorer, Lautaro Martinez, due to a calf injury, and now Thuram's participation is in serious doubt.

Thuram's Absence Forces Inter to Reconsider Formation

Coach Cristian Chivu confirmed that the French international did not train today, suffering from flu symptoms and a fever. Sky Sport Italia further suggests he will not be fit to play tomorrow night.

A straightforward option could involve pairing Francesco Pio Esposito with Ange-Yoan Bonny upfront, marking their first joint start in a Serie A encounter.

However, Chivu demonstrated his tactical flexibility during Tuesday's 0-0 Coppa Italia semi-final draw against Como.

In that game, he deployed a lone centre-forward supported by Davide Frattesi and Andy Diouf in a 3-4-2-1 setup.

Although Diouf struggled in that particular role, other players such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan or even Nicolò Barella could potentially fill that position effectively.
