Milan's Front Office Faces Potential New Changes

Despite a recent return to form, AC Milan is reportedly gearing up for significant internal restructuring at the end of the season, with its front office potentially undergoing major modifications, according to Calciomercato.

The Rossoneri appointed Igli Tare after their initial pursuit of Fabio Paratici was thwarted by his suspension. Tare, a former Lazio executive, successfully executed several profitable player sales, including Malick Thiaw to Newcastle United for €40 million and Theo Hernandez to Al-Hilal for €20 million, which helped address certain financial challenges.

However, the club's transfer dealings for new acquisitions have not yielded similar success. The protracted deal for Ardon Jashari, for instance, has yet to pay off, and Milan has seen insufficient returns on significant investments in players like Christopher Nkunku and Pervis Estupinan. CEO Giorgio Furlani, who had previously maintained a more distant role, became notably more hands-on in January. He personally spearheaded negotiations for Jean-Philippe Mateta, though that transfer ultimately fell through due to the player's knee issues.

To maintain internal harmony, especially with coach Massimiliano Allegri, who might consider departing if the situation escalates, the Rossoneri will need to delineate clear roles behind the scenes. Allegri himself reportedly feels his counsel has been disregarded. While the San Siro club is set to appoint Massimo Calvelli as another senior official, his focus will be solely on financial and business operations. Furlani is expected to remain CEO, but Tare's tenure is far from guaranteed if internal disagreements persist.

Despite his missteps, the introduction of a dedicated sporting director was intended to stabilize the club after several tumultuous periods. However, this stabilization largely hasn't materialized, even if the extent of the issues has mostly been concealed. A comprehensive overhaul of the management structure appears increasingly likely. Crucially, the club must avoid alienating Allegri to the extent that he genuinely contemplates his resignation.
