Lega President Announces Name Change and Expresses Concerns Over Milan`s Ability to Host Euro 2032, Urging New Stadium Development
Italian football`s top league is set to revert to its historical designation, “Lega Calcio Serie A.” This significant change was officially announced by Lega President Ezio Simonelli during the concluding press conference of the club assembly. The previous moniker, “Lega Nazionale Professionisti Serie A,” was considered too long and intricate. The strategic shift aims to re-center football within the league`s identity, acknowledging that it is globally recognized simply as Serie A or Italian football.

The San Siro Question
In addition to the rebranding, Simonelli voiced a critical concern regarding the suitability of San Siro stadium to host matches for Euro 2032. “As of today, I do not believe Milan can host the European Championship in San Siro stadium. Therefore, yes, I am concerned,” stated Simonelli, emphasizing that this alarm is unequivocally shared by the participating clubs.
He expressed a strong hope that a definitive decision would be reached by September 30 to advance with plans for a new stadium. Simonelli underscored that a modern venue is paramount for multiple reasons: it serves the best interests of the city, enables clubs to offer an inviting and contemporary home for their dedicated fans, and is crucial for Italy to include Milan as a host city for the European Championships. He concluded by asserting that organizing a European tournament in Italy without the inclusion of Milan would represent a significant and regrettable setback for the entire nation.
