Jordan Henderson is no longer a player for Ajax. The Dutch football club recently announced the mutual termination of the former England international`s contract. This agreement, requested by the player himself, brings an early end to a deal that was originally set to expire on June 30, 2026. Henderson`s brief tenure in Amsterdam began in January 2024 when he joined the club on a free transfer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq.
Ajax director Alex Kroes offered words of appreciation for the 34-year-old midfielder:
“Jordan proved to be a true leader for us, both on and off the field. He is a world-class player who contributed immensely, not just to our efforts towards Champions League qualification, but also to the enhancement of our sporting culture. We are genuinely grateful for his contributions and extend our best wishes for his future endeavors.”
Henderson, who made 12 official appearances for Ajax during his time there, conveyed his farewell message:
“It was an immense honour to play for Ajax, and an even greater privilege to have worn the captain`s armband. I want to express my gratitude to the club and the loyal fans for their incredibly warm welcome and unwavering support. While we unfortunately didn`t achieve the success we had hoped for during my time, I am confident that Ajax will soon return to an era of great triumphs.”
