Preview Juventus Awaits New Directors: Comolli’s Plan for Technical and Sporting Roles

Comolli to Stagger Appointments; Former Figures Possible for Technical Director

Juventus is set to begin its new season in under three weeks. However, just two weeks before the start, the club is actively involved in the transfer market but lacks a sporting director and hasn`t yet appointed a technical director, who will be the primary point of contact for coach Tudor and the squad. General Manager Comolli`s strategy involves decoupling the arrival times of these two new hires before addressing other areas of the club.

The newly appointed general manager has also begun familiarizing himself with the marketing and commercial departments, previously overseen by Calvo, holding meetings and lunches to build rapport with staff across various offices. Within the sporting department, one area critically needing attention is scouting. Following Giuntoli`s departure, the scouting office is largely depleted, as many trusted personnel he brought in also left.

Juventus: New Technical Director Expected by Late July

While a sporting director will be appointed, it might not happen immediately. Comolli is currently managing transfer negotiations personally, assisted by trusted intermediaries he has long-standing relationships with. The French executive has taken a non-aggressive approach, evaluating the work inherited from Giuntoli and seeking continuity in many aspects (for instance, skillfully maintaining good relations with Jonathan David`s agents and the player himself during transfer talks).

The future sporting director`s focus will be more on recruitment and ensuring consistency in internal planning, including oversight of the youth sector. A decision on this appointment is anticipated in September. In contrast, the technical director is expected to arrive much sooner, specifically before the training camp commences on July 24th. Comolli has scheduled interviews for mid-July, having spent several weeks identifying the ideal candidate to finalize the role. The new technical director will liaise with the coach, players, and all support staff areas that contribute daily to maximizing performance. The possibility of a former Juventus figure returning is not ruled out; the appointee will certainly be someone with recent experience in a similar capacity and a clear understanding of the Italian football landscape.
