Club Condemns Discriminatory Remarks Following Parma Victory
Juventus has formally reported that midfielder Weston McKennie was subjected to racist abuse by a group of away fans following the team`s 2-0 Serie A victory over Parma. The disturbing incident occurred as McKennie was participating in a post-match training session on the pitch with teammates who had not featured in the game.
In an official statement addressing the issue, the Turin-based club articulated its strong condemnation: “This evening, at the conclusion of the match against Parma, Weston McKennie became the target of discriminatory racist remarks from individuals present in the away section. He was training on the pitch with teammates who did not play in the game.”
Reaffirming its unwavering stance against all forms of discrimination, Juventus emphasized its commitment to collaborating with the relevant authorities. The club stated, “Juventus strongly condemns this incident and all manifestations of racism, and will ensure maximum cooperation with the sporting justice bodies to identify the perpetrators.”
This commitment is consistent with the club`s past actions. Notably, two years prior, on April 24, 174 fan bans (Daspo) were issued by the Turin Police Headquarters against supporters responsible for racist chants directed at Romelu Lukaku during a Coppa Italia fixture. These measures were implemented following the club`s active cooperation in identifying those involved.
