Lamine Yamal will no longer wear the number 19 shirt. As widely anticipated, the significant day has arrived: Lamine Yamal has officially signed his contract extension with Barcelona, committing to the club until 2031. Crucially, he now also becomes the Blaugrana`s new number 10. Barcelona confirmed the assignment of the iconic number 10 jersey through an image of a mural in Rocafonda (Mataró), accompanied by the powerful message `From Rocafonda to the World`.
The 18-year-old prodigy, who hails from Rocafonda, thus inherits Barcelona`s mythical number 10 – a shirt previously graced by legendary figures such as Diego Maradona, Ronaldinho, and Lionel Messi. Yamal witnessed this momentous announcement, which encompasses both his contract renewal and new jersey number, alongside his family, with his mother Ebana and father Nasraoui by his side.
Yamal is currently being photographed with his new shirt alongside President Joan Laporta, who was a key proponent of securing Lamine Yamal`s contract extension at any cost. He takes over the jersey previously worn by Ansu Fati until his departure, who is currently on loan at Monaco. New Lamine Yamal kits are already prominently displayed and available for purchase in the Catalan club`s official stores.
Lamine Yamal has been a part of Barcelona`s setup since the tender age of seven, diligently progressing through various youth categories. He made his first-team debut under Flick`s predecessor, Xavi, during the 2022-23 season. In that same season, he became a La Liga champion. Furthermore, he achieved victories in the Spanish Super Cup, Copa del Rey, and La Liga in the 2024-25 season. Remarkably, all these accomplishments occurred before he even reached legal adulthood, truly highlighting him as a predestined talent.
