Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have announced that they have mutually agreed to terminate the Dutch coach`s contract with immediate effect. Van Nistelrooy, who took charge in November 2024 (note: this date is as per the original source), managed the first team during a particularly sensitive period for the club.
Despite the difficulties encountered, including a record of just 5 victories in 27 matches, Van Nistelrooy approached his role with great professionalism, integrity, and dedication to the club`s objectives. He was also noted for integrating several young talents from the youth sector into the first-team squad.
In an official statement, the club expressed its gratitude to the former Manchester United striker for his work, wishing him the best for the future. “Ruud leaves the Club with the respect and gratitude of us all for his commitment and the work he has done,” the statement read.
For his part, Van Nistelrooy offered an elegant farewell: “I wish to personally thank the Leicester players, the technical staff, the Academy, and everyone I have worked with for the professionalism shown during my time at the club. My thanks also go to the fans for their support, and I wish Leicester all the best for the future.”
Meanwhile, preparations for the new season in the Championship will continue as scheduled, with pre-season training set to begin on Monday, June 30th. The appointment of a new manager will be announced shortly by the club.
