Napoli has reportedly sealed another significant transfer, securing striker Lorenzo Lucca for the upcoming season, who will don the blue jersey. The Neapolitan club outmaneuvered several competitors to secure the Udinese goalscorer – who netted 12 goals last season in the league, plus two in the Coppa Italia – after reaching an agreement with the Bianconeri for a loan deal with an obligation to buy, totaling close to €35 million.
As mentioned, other clubs were also eyeing Lucca. Atalanta, fresh from Mateo Retegui`s transfer to Saudi Arabia, had shown interest in the former Pisa and Ajax player. However, the advanced stage of negotiations between Udinese and Napoli quickly quelled any hopes for the Bergamo-based club, prompting them to swiftly pivot towards other targets.
AC Milan had also made a more concrete attempt to sign Lucca. The Rossoneri proposed an exchange deal, offering Lorenzo Colombo`s services to Udinese as a partial counterpart. However, the two clubs` valuations of their respective players did not align, causing the operation to collapse.
Therefore, while Milan and Atalanta continue their search for new strikers in an increasingly active transfer market, Napoli has secured one of the most promising talents in Italian football. Lucca will soon be available to Antonio Conte, ready to contribute to the Azzurri`s cause.
