The Mayor of Torre del Greco, Luigi Mennella, has issued a formal call via an official note, urging entrepreneurs, both local and external, to come forward and express interest in acquiring the sports title of the former Turris club. The objective is to relaunch the city`s football activities starting from the Eccellenza league.
“In recent weeks,” stated Mennella, “as provided by federal regulations in such cases, we formally requested the President of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, to assign an Eccellenza title to the city of Torre del Greco, potentially even as an additional slot. Our ongoing discussions with the Federation have led to significant and promising openness, but unfortunately, they have not yet resulted in official outcomes. The matter was expected to be discussed in the federal council meeting on June 19, but this did not happen. Barring the accelerations we strongly hope for, the issue is scheduled to be addressed in the session on July 8.”
However, Mayor Luigi Mennella considers this potential date too distant. “It is my intention to open a public expression of interest process to hear from all potentially interested parties regarding the title. But it is evident that starting after July 8 would drag the matter almost to the end of July. Given the timelines of football, this would be too late to build a serious project for the 2025/26 season.”
Thus, the idea to move forward sooner: “I appeal to all entrepreneurs interested in investing in football in Torre del Greco, especially those from my city. Anyone who intends to take responsibility for the eventual Eccellenza title that might be assigned to me, and through me to all of Torre del Greco, should come forward,” concluded Mennella. “I am doing this with a formal proposal, to be sent to my secretariat`s email address ([email protected]) by no later than 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. I will personally meet with each representative of the entrepreneurial groups that express interest and evaluate every proposal that can help secure the football future that Torre del Greco deserves. Naturally, in the event the Eccellenza title is not assigned, any agreement or prospect would automatically become null and void.”
