Michel Bastos recently shared a humorous anecdote from his presentation at the Stadio Olimpico, just before a match against Juventus. His manager had informed him he would take a lap around the pitch to greet the fans. Once on the field, escorted by a security guard in a golf cart, fans loudly cheered his name. Suddenly, a scarf was thrown his way, which he instinctively picked up and placed around his neck without a second thought. As he passed under the Curva Sud, he was instructed to raise the scarf high into the air. The moment he did, the stadium erupted in a massive roar of enthusiasm.
Bastos, taken aback by such an intense reaction, wondered if a legendary player like “The Phenomenon” or Ronaldinho was about to make an appearance. At that exact moment, the security guard snatched the scarf away from him, leaving Bastos bewildered and irritated, convinced the man had lost his mind. After completing his lap and returning to the changing rooms, his manager confronted him. Initially confused and protesting his innocence, Bastos then saw footage of his entrance on a screen. Only then did he read the provocative inscription on the scarf: “Lazio s***”. The former Roma player finally understood the reason behind the stadium’s explosive reaction and the security’s swift intervention.
