Former defender and current Sky Sport pundit, Lorenzo Minotti, recently spoke to the pages of the Resto del Carlino about Bologna`s somewhat subdued start to the season. Minotti downplayed any concerns, stating:
“This is a team that exhibits the typical strengths and weaknesses of an early season. I see no reason for alarm; a little patience is simply needed for coach Italiano to fully imprint his vision on the squad. Against Lecce at Via del Mare, despite the 2-2 draw, Bologna showed a desire to dominate the game and dictate play. It`s completely normal to have to make adjustments during this initial phase, especially in defense where two new central defenders have arrived and require time to assimilate team mechanics.”
What Minotti Appreciates About the New Bologna
When asked what he appreciates about the “new” Bologna, Minotti responded enthusiastically:
“I like the depth of the squad in attack. There, coach Italiano has a wide array of options that will prove invaluable considering the team`s commitment across four competitions.”
Minotti`s Concerns from the Lecce Match
Regarding what didn`t convince him, Minotti specified two points:
“I can point out two things I didn`t particularly like in the match against Lecce. Firstly, when facing a team defending with a low block and very tight defensive and midfield lines, it was crucial to find quick through-balls for the attacking midfielder and central striker, their movement to meet the ball, and their ability to get unmarked. In these aspects, Bernardeschi and Dallinga didn`t perform well.”
“Secondly, there was a lack of clear perception of the dangers Lecce created from the outset on their left flank: Orsolini struggled to track back, and Holm often found himself outnumbered. It`s strange that a remedy wasn`t found.”
