The new executive`s journey: what is expected of him in the Bianconeri world

François Modesto, new technical director at Juventus

There is a key aspect that helps simplify the explanation of why François Modesto became the ideal candidate for the role of technical director at Juventus. The French executive built his career operating in the shadow of more prominent figures. Consider, for instance, how Adriano Galliani was perceived as the primary engine behind Monza in recent years; this illustrates the context in which Modesto`s work developed. Evidently, he earned appreciation over time for ensuring quality teamwork, perhaps without emerging into the spotlight or taking personal credit. However, within the task force at Monza, just like at the other clubs where he worked, Olympiakos and Nottingham Forest, he performed his duties effectively and professionally.

OPERATIONAL ROLE

Modesto will serve as Juventus`s technical director, but it`s possible he might also handle some non-pitch activities while awaiting the arrival of a sports director. Certainly, he will have very little free time. The former Monza executive will work closely with Igor Tudor and will be the primary management point of contact for all players. He will oversee the first-team operations and maintain direct communication between the club and every component of the sports area. He will be responsible for managing daily operational discussions, consulting with medical staff and fitness coaches on individual player management to ensure optimal performance, reporting to the general manager. Modesto will not handle transfer market operations; this task, along with overseeing scouting processes, is expected to be assigned to another figure, the future sports director.

CAREER PATH

He was a decent level former player: Modesto even wore the Cagliari shirt around the year 2000, playing for the Sardinian club in both Serie A and B. However, he achieved more significant success as an executive, starting as a market collaborator at Olympiakos and later moving to Nottingham Forest. Until recently, acting from the opposing side`s perspective, he followed the line (which was later abandoned) that would have brought Mbangula and Weah to the Premier League. He performed well at Monza, to the extent that Roma and Milan had considered him for positions within their management structures. He will officially begin his role at Continassa from the July 24th training camp, serving as Tudor`s close associate and the club`s observer during training and all other daily activities throughout the season.
