The situation at Newcastle United can be summarised by the potential swap of one free agent striker leaving for another arriving. The club`s management is actively planning for an ambitious season ahead, with a primary goal being to complete and strengthen their offensive options.
The Magpies have recently said farewell to their long-serving striker, Callum Wilson, whose contract expired after five years with the club. This marks a significant departure, as Wilson was a key player who made club history in previous seasons. However, at 33, he appears to have lost some of his peak form.
Consequently, the search for his replacement is underway, and one name is reportedly gaining significant traction in recent hours: Dominic Calvert-Lewin. He is also available on a free transfer and could represent an excellent opportunity, potentially filling the role as back-up to Alexander Isak.
Calvert-Lewin is on the free agent market after spending nine years at Everton. He particularly impressed during the COVID-affected season and the subsequent year, scoring a total of 29 goals across those two Premier League campaigns and seemingly set for a bright future. However, his progress has unfortunately been hampered by injuries, starting with a severe foot fracture followed by a persistent series of muscular problems.
Despite these injury setbacks, at the age of 28, he is still capable of making a valuable contribution, and Newcastle is now said to be giving serious consideration to signing him.
