In an interview with today`s Gazzetta dello Sport, the new head of the Serie C refereeing committee (CAN di C), Daniele Orsato, outlined the innovations coming to the third division: “Video Football Support will be a major innovation. I`ve discussed it with president Marani, and there`s great enthusiasm. How will it function? The fourth official will review every frame of play, and each coach will be granted two challenges. If a challenge is successful, they retain it; if incorrect, they lose it.”
Following a challenge, the referee will review the incident on video to assess the coach`s request and render the final decision. This represents an important step and a significant advancement. I want to particularly commend Zappi, who succeeded in achieving something important that hadn`t been possible until now.”
