Nicola Pozzi, a former striker who played for teams including Empoli, recently spoke on Radio FirenzeViola during the `Viola Amore Mio` program about Fiorentina`s initial moves in the transfer market. Here are the key points he made: “There have been interesting developments. I don`t believe the market is finished; it started early and with sensible signings.”
His thoughts on Dzeko?
“I attended Mourinho`s training sessions and watched two of Fenerbahce`s matches: Dzeko struck me as someone who still has a lot to contribute. It`s true he is 39, but he has practically never missed training and has always been in good condition. He could be a valuable opportunity; it`s a smart piece of business. I observed that in Turkey he played as a central forward, effectively linking play, much like he did at Inter.”
What does he anticipate regarding Kean? What about potential replacements?
“Piccoli is a player who is still developing. Pio possesses incredible drive, and I think he has a significant future ahead. Lucca fits a similar profile to these players, but from a technical standpoint, he is less polished compared to the others. Regarding Kean, I believe everyone hopes he stays because he represented the crucial reliable option they lacked, and they finally found that key player. However, I feel it`s too early to discuss this. Another year at Fiorentina would also be beneficial for him.”
His opinion on keeping Gudmundsson?
“In my view, it`s the correct decision by Fiorentina: he has only demonstrated about 20% of his full potential. If Kean also stays, Fiorentina would field a very high-quality attack with players offering different attributes. Coach Pioli would have a wealth of significant options available upfront.”
How does he assess the signing of Fazzini?
“He is a promising prospect who finished the last season strongly. He also scored some vital goals, and I believe that if he hadn`t sustained an injury, he could have been helpful to Empoli. I see him as a `mezz`ala` (box-to-box midfielder) in a three-man midfield. I think he could also develop and learn to operate in a two-man midfield. Clearly, I wouldn`t view him as a deep-lying playmaker, but he could grow in other areas.”
