Prato Football Club faces a potential crisis after President Stefano Commini announced a dramatic halt to investment and declared the team would not be registered for the upcoming Serie D championship. Speaking on TV Prato, Commini stated, “I have been the only one investing money until today, yet I see they continue to invite me to sell; they organize protests. Fine, from now on I will not invest anymore, and I will not register the team for the next championship. I am curious to see what will happen.”
This decision follows the collapse of negotiations for a potential sale to a group of around forty local entrepreneurs and professionals. This group had planned a three-year project aimed at returning the Tuscan club to Lega Pro. The potential buyers had offered €300,000 immediately, plus another €300,000 if promotion was achieved within two years. They had requested ten days of exclusivity to conduct a “due diligence” review of the club`s financial records.
Commini expressed his frustration, stating, “I have to endure all this criticism (“mud”) despite having spent several million euros.” He admitted that sporting results haven`t been successful in recent seasons, which he has always acknowledged. However, he added that “everyone is good at coming out of the Lungobisenzio gates to protest.” He reiterated, “I am ready to sit down at a table and discuss with the group, provided that some of the involved entrepreneurs or who represents them actually show up for the meeting. Then we could look at the accounts and analyze the club`s balance sheet.”
