Slavia Prague`s midfield maestro, Lukas Provod, who was nearly set for a move to Tuscany last year, prepares for his return to Milan following his team`s 2019 draw. He declared, “It will be David against Goliath, but we dare to dream of an upset.”
Lukas Provod has already singled out Inter`s Stefan De Vrij. “I wasn`t aware he played the piano like me. Perhaps after we secure a victory at San Siro, I`ll ask him for some advice. We are aiming for a monumental achievement.” Provod, a cornerstone of the Slavia team, has led them to three league titles. In their most recent Champions League fixture, he delivered two assists against Bodo Glimt, and his domestic performance remains strong with two goals and seven assists. He also boasts 33 caps for his national team and previously helped Slavia hold Inter to a 1-1 draw at San Siro in 2019.
“Lukas, is the objective to replicate that past performance?”
“Absolutely. I had just joined Slavia back then, playing only five minutes, but it was an unforgettable experience. Much like our win against Roma in the Europa League and the two fierce matches against Milan, where we stood our ground despite receiving two red cards across the two games.”
“Inter-Slavia Prague sounds like a classic David versus Goliath encounter.”
“Indeed, we are David, and we recognize that. However, we`ve consistently shown our ability to trouble any opponent in Europe. So, they ought to be cautious. We will exert every effort to make things difficult for the *Nerazzurri*.”
“What do you consider your team`s primary strength?”
“Our strength lies in a balanced combination of promising young talents and seasoned players – in essence: our collective unity. Under the guidance of Coach Trpisovsky, who is the best in the country, we thrive. His philosophy is truly special; he prioritizes intensity, relentless pressing, and fostering strong relationships with his players.”
“Which Inter player do you find inspiring?”
“I would say Barella, particularly for his unwavering mentality and sheer commitment.”
“And an Italian footballer you hold in high regard?”
“Andrea Pirlo. There`s really no need for me to elaborate on why.”
“Is it true that you were close to moving to Serie A in 2024?”
“Empoli expressed interest, but Slavia opted not to release me, leading me to renew my contract. I believe it worked out quite well in the end.”
“Could you share a bit about your personal background?”
“I grew up surrounded by sports. My father, who is a financial director at a construction company, was both a cross-country skier and a national motorcycling champion. My mother, currently a high school principal, played professional volleyball. While I`ve always pursued football, I also completed a degree in economics.”
“What`s more challenging: competing in the Champions League or tackling macroeconomics?”
“Well, facing Inter is definitely tougher. But studying wasn`t difficult at all; in fact, we footballers have a considerable amount of free time. Forbes reported that I put aside 90% of my salary to ensure financial security after my career.”
“What aspirations do you have for your post-football career?”
“I`m actively preparing for it now. A solid financial education is absolutely essential, and it`s a topic that should be discussed more frequently.”
“You once stated, `I am a very reflective player.` What did you mean by that?”
“I ponder extensively about everything. I tried consulting a mental coach to analyze my games, but it didn`t prove very effective. So, I do it myself: after each match, I receive a compilation of all my plays and meticulously review it to identify areas for improvement.”
“In 2021, you were sidelined for nine months due to an injury.”
“That was undoubtedly the most arduous period of my career. However, in 2024, I managed a significant comeback by participating in the Euros and even scoring a goal against Cristiano Ronaldo`s Portugal. I still get goosebumps recalling it – the chants, the stadium atmosphere, the crowd, and the immense pride of being there. After the match, I even exchanged jerseys with Pepe, truly a legend.”
“Finally, let`s discuss the piano. When did you begin playing?”
“During my injury layoff. It served as a means to detach, to focus on something different, to look ahead, and not to dwell on the pain. Playing the piano provides me with immense relaxation; it helps alleviate the stress that comes with professional football.”
“Perhaps a future conversation topic with De Vrij?”
“I`ll certainly try to solicit some advice from him.”
“So, who do you predict will emerge victorious at San Siro?”
“I hope it`s us. Don`t you dare underestimate us.”
