After unsuccessfully pursuing Moise Kean, Al Qadsiah has shifted its focus while still targeting one of Serie A`s top goalscorers. They have reportedly turned their attention firmly to Mateo Retegui, who finished as top scorer last season wearing the Atalanta shirt. According to the latest transfer market reports, a deal is now very close to being finalized.
To put things in perspective: initially, Al Qadsiah reportedly offered Retegui a net salary of €15 million per year, similar to their offer for Kean. However, they significantly increased their proposal for Retegui to a staggering €20 million per year, which is eight times his current earnings at Atalanta (affectionately known as `La Dea`, The Goddess). Such an offer is hard to refuse. As a result, Retegui has reportedly indicated his willingness to accept a deal worth €80 million over four years, pending final agreement between the clubs.
In principle, Atalanta were reluctant to lose their key striker, even when faced with an initial Saudi bid of €53 million. However, given the Italo-Argentinian`s apparent willingness to make the move, discussions began. It`s understood that a deal could be struck for around €70 million. The Saudi club has reportedly increased their offer to a total of €65 million, including fixed fees and bonuses, and an agreement is thought to be imminent. Only minor details remain to be ironed out, expected to be finalized by Friday unless unforeseen issues arise. With Atalanta preparing to bid farewell to their striker, they are already looking for a replacement, with Lorenzo Lucca of Udinese reportedly being the primary target.
