Capital Gains Deadline Met: €13 Million Target Nearing with English Player`s Departure, Ndicka and Angeliño Stay

There`s no need to worry. AS Roma`s financial operation is expected to be successful today. The club has secured the €13 million in capital gains required to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations. This means they won`t have to sacrifice key players from the squad that will begin a new cycle under Gian Piero Gasperini. To balance the books, it will be sufficient to finalize the €20 million transfer of English forward Tammy Abraham to Besiktas today, as he is no longer part of the club`s plans. Additionally, one or two youth academy players may be sold, a practice seen in previous seasons. With Leandro Paredes` recent transfer to Boca Juniors, the financial target should be met.

Goal on the Horizon

On this “day of reckoning,” the “ominous” June 30th deadline for financial compliance under Financial Fair Play (agreements set to conclude in 2026), the Giallorossi club will generate €8 million in capital gains from the sale of the English player. This will be supplemented by €2 million from Paredes` transfer to Boca and €2.2 million from the sale of former Catanzaro midfielder Riccardo Pagano to Bari. Should further capital gains be necessary, Roma is prepared to sell at least one of its many promising young players to achieve its goal and prevent owner Dan Friedkin from having to personally cover any deficit (which would otherwise incur a detailed UEFA fine).

Roma`s Transfer List

Thus, the much-feared deadline day should pass without excessive fanfare or anxiety. With Evan Ndicka, Angeliño, and Mile Svilar – recently mentioned as potential departures to help clear the club`s debt – now off the market, Sporting Director Ricky Massara expects to finalize the Abraham deal (who had previously rejected Zenit Saint Petersburg) today, along with at most one other youth player in addition to Pagano. This strategy of selling academy prospects has been successfully employed in recent seasons with notable cases like Volpato, Tahirovic, and Felix. Among the talents from Roma`s youth academy (“cantera”), numerous options are being considered: from forward Luigi Cherubini (sought by Sassuolo) to midfielder Ebrima Darboe (offered to Pisa and Cremonese), as well as midfielders Mattia Mannini and Alessandro Romano, Spanish full-back Jan Oliveras, defender Federico Terlizzi, and goalkeeper Giorgio De Marzi. All these young players would generate direct capital gains.
