The Argentine underwent a series of athletic evaluations yesterday, with medical tests scheduled for today. The aim is to be fully prepared for the start of Serie A.

Paulo Dybala is moving fast, quite literally. Yesterday, at Trigoria, he completed a series of athletic tests, including running assessments, to evaluate his physical condition following his left semitendinosus tendon surgery in March. The results were encouraging, even excellent. Of course, the true cause for celebration will come after today`s medical tests, when “La Joya” (The Jewel) will undergo a control MRI to clear any remaining doubts. However, the overall impressions, including those of the medical staff, are positive. Barring any unforeseen and unlikely events, Dybala will be fully available to Gian Piero Gasperini for the first day of the Giallorossi pre-season retreat on Sunday.
Current Status
It`s understood that Dybala might undergo a personalized training regimen in the initial days, with his first sessions likely being “differentiated” (individualized). This is a standard part of his recovery program, specifically the third phase focused on re-athleticization. We are talking about a player who hasn`t had a proper training session in nearly four months, and despite Paulo`s perfect recovery progress, a cautious approach is necessary. Dybala, however, was diligent during his vacation, performing specific exercises under the watchful eyes of Roma`s physiotherapists, who accompanied him in Miami and Argentina. He was also disciplined with his diet, as his “check-up” at Trigoria found him in excellent shape regarding weight and lean body mass. In short, he`s in ideal condition to truly resume work. The Argentine`s objective is to be available for Gasperini`s squad as early as the first league match on August 23rd, when Roma will host Vincenzo Italiano`s Bologna at the Olimpico.
At Trigoria
In recent days, Dybala has also begun to build rapport with Ricky Massara, Roma`s new sporting director. The two had met years ago at a public event, but now they have the opportunity to get to know each other better. This will intensify on Sunday when coach Gasperini arrives at Trigoria. Gasperini, however, already knows Dybala, having coached him at Palermo at the beginning of his career. Now, the focus will be on understanding how the new Giallorossi coach intends to utilize “La Joya.” The most probable position is that of a right-sided attacking midfielder, but Paulo could also play as a false nine. After all, De Ketelaere also played in that role for Atalanta.
The Contract
After the transfer window concludes, there will also be an opportunity to discuss his future. Dybala wishes to remain with the Giallorossi, and if Roma were to propose extending his contract by one year (until 2027) with a corresponding salary redistribution, he would be open to discussions. His friend Paredes has returned to Boca, but Dybala wants to stay in Rome. For a while longer, at least, before perhaps considering a move elsewhere, possibly to the USA. But not yet…
