Salernitana has been officially relegated to Serie C. This decision comes from the Serie B sports judge following serious incidents that occurred last night at the Arechi stadium during the return leg of the playoff match against Sampdoria.
The club was sanctioned with a 3-0 defeat by forfeit and is obligated to play its first two home matches of the next season behind closed doors.
Yesterday`s game was definitively stopped in the 21st minute of the second half, with Sampdoria leading 2-0. The interruption was caused by Salernitana fans continuously throwing flares, firecrackers, and seats onto the pitch. After approximately half an hour, an attempt was made to resume play, but the disturbances by Salernitana ultras quickly restarted, leading the referee to abandon the match permanently.
Consequently, Salernitana is officially relegated to Serie C, while Sampdoria secures its safety.
