Sampdoria`s organizational structure is undergoing significant changes and expansion, with Jesper Fredberg appointed as the new CEO for the sports area and Andrea Mancini confirmed as Sporting Director.
Massimo Donati has been officially appointed as Sampdoria`s new head coach, with a contract extending until June 30, 2026, and an option for renewal upon promotion. This morning, the Blucerchiati club released an open letter from President Matteo Manfredi to the fans, providing an update on the current situation ahead of the new season. Medical examinations are scheduled for the weekend, followed by departure for the training camp in Ponte di Legno on Tuesday the 22nd.
A Message of Confidence
In his address, President Manfredi stated: “Dear Blucerchiati fans, I know how difficult the past few months have been, filled with frustration, questions, and an undeniable desire for change. Your unwavering support has been the beating heart of the Blucerchiato world, and today, together, it`s time to turn the page and look forward. I am therefore pleased to announce Jesper Fredberg as the new CEO of the Football Area and Massimo Donati as the new first-team coach.”
Manfredi highlighted Fredberg`s extensive international experience with clubs like Anderlecht, Panathinaikos, Omonia Nicosia, and Viborg, calling him “one of the most innovative executives in European football.” At Anderlecht, Fredberg revitalized the club`s sporting strategy, modernized player selection, and prioritized talent development. Previously, he led Viborg from the Danish second division to contention for top spots and European competition. Manfredi emphasized that Fredberg`s experience and vision align perfectly with Sampdoria`s goals: “a sustainable, competitive, and ambitious Sampdoria, supported by data and technology, and guided by experienced executives.”
The New Coach
Regarding Massimo Donati, Manfredi added: “Alongside Jesper Fredberg`s appointment, we welcome Massimo Donati, a young coach with deep knowledge of both Italian and international football. A former Sampdoria midfielder, Massimo has built a promising coaching career defined by clear ideas, professionalism, and the ability to get the best out of young talents. His work in recent years has not gone unnoticed, and we are confident that his passion and leadership will make a difference.”
Donati and Fredberg will be supported by Andrea Mancini, who is confirmed as Sporting Director. “Andrea has always shown a deep sense of belonging to the Blucerchiati colors, and we are certain that together, these three can form a young and modern team capable of leading Sampdoria back to the achievements we all hope for,” Manfredi stated. He also reaffirmed the club`s ownership remains “solid and fully committed to investing in Sampdoria`s future.” Manfredi addressed the delay in these key appointments, explaining it was “evaluated with extreme care” to deeply analyze past mistakes and “ensure we made the right choices to set the club on the most solid path possible.”

Acknowledgements
Concluding his letter, Manfredi extended his gratitude to Alberico Evani and Attilio Lombardo, who coached the team for the final six league matches and the two-legged playout: “A sincere thank you goes to Alberico Evani, Attilio Lombardo, and their staff for the professionalism and dedication shown during a complex period. Their efforts were deeply appreciated by the ownership and the entire club.” He reiterated the club`s ambition: “Our ambition is clear: we want to relaunch our club starting with a recognizable footballing identity, capable of honoring Sampdoria`s history.”
