The striker is diligently recharging his batteries after an eventful season, marked by both triumphs and disappointments across Feyenoord, Milan, and the Mexican national team. An immediate shift in momentum is crucial, with his primary goal being to win over coach Allegri.

Santi Gimenez is a man on a mission. Following Igli Tare`s public declaration that AC Milan intends to seek another number 9 striker to compete with the Mexican, Gimenez immediately donned his metaphorical helmet and wasted no time. The former Feyenoord player, having foregone the summer tour for a holiday, put in exceptional extra work to ensure he arrived at the Rossoneri training camp in the best possible condition. His objective is crystal clear: to swiftly earn Allegri`s trust and establish himself as Milan`s undisputed offensive focal point, eliminating any potential competition.

Between Argentina and the Islands

Gimenez concluded his 2024-25 season on July 7, securing the Gold Cup with Mexico, albeit in a supporting role. Out of six matches, he started only the opening game against the Dominican Republic, subsequently making only brief appearances from the bench, as Raul Jimenez of Fulham held the starting number 9 position. Competition, it seems, followed him everywhere.

To fully recuperate, Santi spent the month of July between Buenos Aires and the picturesque Turks and Caicos Islands. In Argentina, he embraced relaxation: he attended a Boca Juniors match from the stands alongside his father, Christian. Amidst enjoying traditional asado and sipping mate, he presented his Milan jersey to Juan Roman Riquelme. The president of the Xeneizes promptly returned the favor, gifting Gimenez a personalized Boca jersey featuring his number (7) and surname. Beyond football, a delightful photo on the Mexican`s social media profiles even showcased two puppies wearing miniature Milan jerseys. Yet, the irresistible call of the pitch proved too strong; Santi couldn`t resist. He posted a video on Instagram, displaying his impressive dribbling skills on a small field in an Argentine neighborhood, executing clever feints and nutmegs.

Chess, Tennis, and Shooting Drills

However, the true physical conditioning began in the heart of the Atlantic Ocean. Towards the end of July, Gimenez relocated to the Turks and Caicos Islands, part of the Bahamas archipelago, accompanied by his partner Fernanda Serrano. Amidst refreshing swims in crystal-clear waters, invigorating bike rides, therapeutic massages, and strategic games of chess, he conducted numerous on-field training sessions. A particular focus was placed on strengthening his weaker foot. Last season, he netted 6 goals for Milan in five months, with only one of them originating from his right foot (against Bologna in early May).

Consequently, on the islands, he dedicated a significant portion of his days to practicing dribbling drills through cones and refining his shots with his less-dominant foot. Gym sessions and a few tennis matches were also integral parts of his rigorous routine. Meanwhile, from their recent tour in Asia and Australia, Milan has discovered a promising new dimension in Rafa Leao, who has effectively performed as a central striker. It appears Gimenez already faces his first significant rival within the squad.
