Release clauses are becoming increasingly common in Italian football players` contracts. These clauses allow two clubs to bypass lengthy negotiations for a player`s transfer, simply by paying a predetermined fee. Some of these agreements are only valid for clubs outside of Italy, while others can also be activated by Italian teams. However, most release clauses have a specific expiration date. The most famous transfer involving this type of clause in Serie A was undoubtedly Gonzalo Higuain`s move from Napoli to Juventus in 2016.
