Minesso`s Brace Overturns Home Advantage as Brescia`s Return is Marred Before Over 5,000 Season Ticket Holders
Forty years after their last appearance, Brescia made their return to Serie C under the new Union di Pasini project, only for their celebratory match to be spoiled in front of over 8,000 spectators. At the Rigamonti stadium, which boasts over 5,000 season ticket holders, it was Arzignano who celebrated a victory, thanks to a decisive brace from substitute Minesso. His two goals dramatically overturned Brescia`s initial lead, which had been secured by Di Molfetta. Both of the opening goals were spectacular: Di Molfetta`s curling right-footed shot from outside the box gave Brescia a provisional 1-0 lead, while Arzignano`s experienced number 10, Minesso, equalized with a stunning right-footed volley.
In another match, Pitou of Alcione scored a remarkable goal from midfield to clinch a win against Triestina. Lecco, meanwhile, successfully avenged their Coppa Italia elimination from a week prior by defeating Ospitaletto.
Group B presented no major upsets, though the most discussed incident involved the Football Video Support (FVS). Carpi`s coach controversially requested and obtained a review that resulted in a player`s second yellow card being rescinded. Reports suggest he did this by asking for a direct red card instead – a rare but permitted maneuver within the protocol to prompt a VAR check.
Elsewhere, Ascoli could only manage a draw in front of 9,000 fans, while Ravenna, Gubbio, and Torres kicked off their campaigns with positive results.
