AZ Picerno has announced Valerio Bertotto as their new coach, marking the fifth managerial change in Serie C this season. General Manager Vincenzo Greco explains that securing Bertotto was a long-term objective for the Lucanian club.
“We had approached Mr. Bertotto two years ago, but he was under contract with the club he was working for, so the match didn`t happen then. Now, when we decided to dismiss Mr. De Luca, the first coach I called was Mr. Bertotto, and I made no other calls: he has the characteristics to continue the work, our project that we started a few years ago, and, I repeat, he is the ideal person at this moment to come to Picerno.”
Words from Picerno`s General Manager, Vincenzo Greco.
Greco made these comments yesterday regarding Bertotto, whose appointment had not yet been officially announced. Bertotto replaces De Luca, who was dismissed after only nine league matches. This marks the fifth managerial change in Serie C since the start of the season, following previous alterations at Dolomiti Bellunesi, Lumezzane (Group A), Perugia (Group B), and Giugliano (Group C).
Valerio Bertotto`s Official Appointment
AZ Picerno subsequently made the formal announcement: “AZ Picerno announces that it has entrusted the technical guidance of the first team to Valerio Bertotto.” The club also confirmed the addition of Claudio Bazeu as assistant coach. Born in Turin in 1973, Bertotto boasts a remarkable playing career, primarily as an icon and captain for Udinese for over thirteen seasons, accumulating more than 330 Serie A appearances, and participating in both the Champions League and the Intertoto Cup (won in 2000). He also played for Siena and Venezia and earned four caps for the Italian National Team between 2000 and 2001.
