Preview Verona Targets Former Real Madrid Man Javi Sanchez for Defense

Hellas Verona is actively seeking defensive reinforcements following the departures of Diego Coppola (to Brighton) and Paweł Dawidowicz (free agent). Defender Daniele Ghilardi has also reportedly attracted interest from other clubs, further highlighting the need for new additions in the backline.

The club is currently exploring several options. Matias Moreno and Nicolas Valentini from Fiorentina are potential targets, with Valentini having already impressed in the latter part of the recently concluded season. Reports also suggest that Ntoi from Olympiakos is nearing a move. Furthermore, Verona is reportedly working on a deal for a player from the Spanish La Liga.

This player is identified as Javier Sanchez, a center-back who currently plays for Real Valladolid and was previously part of the Real Madrid youth academy. The 26-year-old (`97-born) is under contract with Valladolid until June 30, 2026, but discussions are underway for a mutual termination of the current agreement. It is reported that a three-year contract is prepared for him should he join Verona.

Sanchez made 26 appearances for Real Valladolid last season across the league (Liga) and Copa del Rey, scoring one goal. Before moving to Valladolid in 2020, he also made five first-team appearances for Real Madrid, scoring once during his time with the “blancos.”
