Preview Zaniolo Settles Case with €15,000 Fine Following Roma Primavera Encounter

The attacker has reached an agreement with federal prosecutor Chinè.

Nicolò Zaniolo has reached a settlement, agreeing to pay a €15,000 fine for the incident involving two Roma Primavera players on May 25 in the Viola Park changing rooms. He acknowledged his actions, apologized, and the case has been resolved.

The Agreement

Zaniolo`s agreement was reached with federal prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè, who considered several mitigating factors. Chinè noted Zaniolo`s remorse during questioning, despite the player reacting to provocations from some young Roma players. Chinè required a public apology, which Zaniolo issued via social media on June 10. Investigations, including witness hearings, contradicted Roma`s initial statements: there were no serious blows, only minor contact described as a couple of taps on the neck. Hospital reports for the two players, Almaviva and Litti, showed no significant injuries, reinforced by one player being seen playing padel a few days later.

The Sanction

Initially, Zaniolo faced charges under Article Four of the Sporting Justice Code (loyalty and integrity) and for violent conduct, which typically entails a three-match ban and a fine. By opting for a settlement before a full hearing, he secured an automatic 50% reduction in the potential penalty. The prosecutor also took into account Zaniolo`s full cooperation during the investigation and his subsequent public display of regret (similar to a previous case involving Mourinho). These factors culminated in the €15,000 fine. The agreement includes a clear warning: any future similar incidents by Zaniolo will result in severe sanctions without the possibility of settlement, classifying him as a repeat offender.
